Burgerlijk

About the host

Burgerlijk not only serves top quality burgers – made with meat, fish or vegetables – but it is also a much loved Maastricht gathering spot, due to its welcoming and cosy atmosphere. The restaurant joined the Flush project and now features a richly patterned toilet interior by design student Rob Stoffels.

Project philosophy

" The first time I went to Burgerlijk to see the toilet rooms, I saw an open kitchen. I could see in that moment a flame rising from the grill, that gave me a spark, a jolt of inspiration."- Rob stoffels

During this project I was interested in working with repeating patterns. To me the restaurant was build up in different sections and with a top view you could see it was built in horizontal layers. From the top to the bottom, kitchen, staff hangout, bar lounge, street view. Burgerlijk has a warm and homely atmosphere. This is why I choose for a warm color pattern. I used the flame, from the first encounter at the restaurant. Even though Burgerlijk uses a diversity of decorative design on their walls. They all come together to make you feel welcome.
